Utica – Precessor of Carthage

Utica means “old town” in Latin. Carthage means “New town”. So we drove to Utica to look at another, very old, roman site. I have a certain thing for ionic volutes (picture 2). And apparently one for holding mens penises on statues, too. Did you know that 2000 years ago, they made the male crown-jewelry on statues extra small on purpose because it otherwise would have been to vulgar? We also found this very devoted puppy close by that wanted to follow us. He was hard to resist. Just like the statue.
